June 4 marks the anniversary of Buddha’s first teaching in this world and also the birthday of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, the Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union.
Forty-nine days after Buddha attained enlightenment, as a result of requests he rose from meditation and taught the first Wheel of Dharma.
Every day we remember the extraordinary kindness of Venerable Geshe-la, our Root Guru and Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition.
But on the auspicious day June 4, at Kadampa centres around the world, with minds of rejoicing and gratitude, we offer him our faith through using the special prayer Request to the Holy Spiritual Guide Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso from his Faithful Disciples and collecting our Guru’s name mantra in a one-day retreat.
Everyone is welcome to take part.
We conclude the day with a special puja (chanted prayer) Offering to the Spiritual Guide from 6-8pm.
Gen Kelsang Dragpa is the Resident Teacher at Kadampa meditasjonssenter Oslo, and National Spiritual Director for the Nordic Region.
He has been practising and teaching Kadampa Buddhism for many years and has been an ordained monk since 1993.
His way of teaching is very practical and easy to understand.
